Over 1.9 million Stroke 8s were built until December 1976, and in 1974 it was even the highest-selling personal vehicle in Germany. The timeless shape of the body with its clear lines bereft of fashionable frills was produced by Paul Bracq. The outstanding qualities of the Stroke 8 meant that it influenced an entire generation of automobiles over the course of its career. Anyone preferring a pluckier motorisation picked the six-cylinder models, although they came at a price.

In this precise case it was 135,200 shillings that the original owner paid for the 230 with its parchment-white custom coat of paint, blue fabric interior, automatic gearbox, power steering, stick shift and heat-insulated glass, according to the original invoice of 16 September 1970.
