Lot No. 535 V

1962 Lancia Appia 3 series*

1962 Lancia Appia 3 series* - Classic Cars

Delivered to Vienna!

The Appia succeeded the Areda in spring 1953. In terms of its design, the small, elegant saloon resembled a more compact Aurelia, but without the central pillar between the doors and with more aerodynamic lines. The new 1.1-litre V4 motor was a small miracle of engineering, featuring hemispheric combustion chambers and a bank angle of just 10.14°. Three Appia series’ were built over ten years, improved consistently and eventually given a new grille to resemble the Flaminia. Here in Austria, the car remained a rare and exotic model, not least due to its fairly hefty price.

This Appia was delivered to its first owner in the 18th district of Vienna by the Viennese Lancia agent Wolfgang Denzel in May 1962. The Appia made its way to Mödling just 1 ½ years later, where it remained registered until 1982. The motor authorities of Lower Austria summoned the vehicle for an inspection in 1970, which it passed with flying colours. The Lancia with reregistered in 1988 to the Steyr Automobil Vertriebges.m.b.H. and was given the license plate S-310. What the number means is a mystery, although it cries out to be resolved! The Appia was finally deregistered in 1994, and it remains today in a largely unrestored condition. Although it shows the traces of age, they only serve to make it more interesting, especially in view of its history!
