Olga Wisinger-Florian
(Vienna 1844–1926 Grafenegg) Still Life with Crops, estate stamp on the reverse, oil on canvas, laid down on artist’s board, 56.5 x 38.5 cm, framed, (Rei)
Provenance:
559th art auction, Dorotheum Vienna, 19 March 1963, lot 127, plate 46.
Illustrated and recorded in:
Michaela Schwab, Olga Wisinger-Florian, Diplomarbeit Vienna 1991, no. 199 and recorded on p. 111
“The precisely thought-out composition has given way here to an apparently incidental image area. On the stone bench to the left of the painting stands a clay jug, to the right a flat basket, presenting its content - corn cobs - to the viewer. A pumpkin and a wicker basket stand on the rough dirt floor, and on the uneven wall herbs have obviously been hung up to dry. The rough treatment of the surfaces, the lack of detail in the individual objects and the two-dimensional appearance all suggest that the work dates to her late creative period, probably around 1900.” (Michaela Schwab, Olga Wisinger-Florian, Vienna 1991, p. 111)
