Ferdinand Leeke: The artist was a pupil at the Munich Academy under Ludwig von Herterich and Alexander von Liezen-Mayer. He primarily painted scenes taken from the world of Germanic mythology, genre paintings and portraits. As a pupil of von Liezen-Mayer, F. Leeke belonged to the circle of the Piloty school. However, during his later years he adopted the colouristic experiences of the Secessionists into his visual world. Compare: Bruckmann’s Lexikon der Münchner Kunst, München 1982, Vol. 3, p. 31.
