Provenance: Auction Dorotheum, Vienna, 12th December 1978, lot 112 (incorrectly dated 1831); Private German collection. The landscape and animal painter Johann Nepomuk Rauch received his education at the Vienna Academy. He lived in Russia from 1831 to 1841 where the varied landscapes and their inhabitants inspired him to paint numerous works.
