(Vienna 1776–1857) Large Decorative Still Life with Flowers, signed J. Wegmayr, oil on canvas, 145.5 x 122 cm, framed, (W)

Sebastian Wegmayr: After studying at the Vienna Academy under Johann Baptist Drechsler, the artist became a reader at the academy’s school of manufacturing in 1807, and in 1812 professor of flower painting. He was also awarded the rank of an imperial and royal academic counsellor. Wegmayr exhibited at the academy’s exhibitions from 1830 onwards. His oeuvre is bouquets of flowers and still lifes with fruit and with animals. (Compare Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, Ein Blumenstrauß für Waldmüller, Wien 1993, p.263.)
