Josef Anton Poniatowsky was a Polish aristocrat and war minister. His mother was the Austrian Countess Thérèse Gräfin Kinsky. Poniatowsky participated as a French marshal in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig in the army of Napoleon I. The sheet shows Napoleon’s retreat and the blasting of the bridge across White Elster river. Poniatowski drowned when he was riding through the river.
