1963 Vyatka VP 150 (ohne Limit / without reserve)


Somehow a Vespa must have found its way into the Soviet Union in the mid-1950s. Only one year after the presentation of the GS an exact copy was rolling out of a factory in Vyatskiye Polyany. The sheet metal of the Vyatka VP 150 was thicker, the tyres were wider, since the Russian roads were not quite what one would call better. While Vespas were built almost all around the globe thanks to an innovative license business, Piaggio never saw one rouble from the Vyatkas built in the USSR. The complaints from Italy did not bother anyone behind the iron curtain.

The Vyatka was built until 1965, three years longer than its Italian role model. More than 300,000 Vyatka rolled out of the factory, some of them having found their ways into the West, where they are always treated with curiosity and interest.

How this Vyatka came to Austria is not known. While it has been given a new livery at some point, its original blue paint is still underneath. Moreover it seems to be complete, including the red star gracing the front fender. Apparently all the Vyatka needs is a little bit of attention to bring it back on the road.
