1973 Vespa 50 Elestart (ohne Limit / without reserve)


In 1969 Piaggio presented the Vespa V 50 Special with an electric starter and called it Elestart. A dynostarter by Bosch, fed from two 6V batteries under the left side panel, replaced the kick-starter. The engine was adjusted accordingly, while apart from that the Elestart was mostly a regular Special and received the same developments over the years. Built in two series it was later upgraded not only with a new lettering, but also a 4-.speed transmission and 9-inch wheels.

The Elestart stayed in the Piaggio program for seven years. Production reached 4-digit numbers only three times through those years. All in all only 7,808 examples of this model were built. Therefore this rare bird has now without doubt become a case for the advanced collector.

This Vespa 50 Elestart was delivered new to Germany. To this day it has survived in an unrestored, original condition, which makes the little more than 10,000 kilometers on the odometer appear to be the true mileage. At the same time the charming patina fits it just really well.
