1975 Vespa 50 SR (ohne Limit / without reserve)


In 1975 Piaggio introduced the new Vespa 50 SR. What looked like a 50 Special at first glance, was something quite else, especially under the right side panel. A Super Sprint engine was hiding there, souped up with an alloy cylinder, a large Dell‘Orto carburetor and a Sito banana. Those raised the power output to 4,4 HP, which made the 50 SR go incredible 72 km/h. It was the fastest 50 cc Vespa ever built.

The 50 SR was in production for five years, in rather homoeopathic doses, though. Only 579 pieces were made, which makes it one of the rarest Vespas in history. Any further comment about desirability is spared at this point. It has long become a trophy for expert Vespa collectors and whenever one turns up on the market it usually disappears an instant later.

This Vespa 50 SR is the 19th example built! Being such an early production model it is dressed in Beige Versailles, a color only the first 100 examples wore. The badge on the frame outs the SR as a German model, that came to Austria in 2010. In addition to its rareness, this SR has visibly been restored with lots of love.
