Christian Ludwig Attersee - vendere e comprare opere

28 August 1940, Pressburg (present-day Bratislava, Slovakia)

Christian Ludwig Attersee is one of the best known Austrian painters internationally, and was a co-founder of the New Austrian Painting movement.

Before training as an artist, Attersee enjoyed great success in sailing sports. He initially studied stage design at the Academy for Applied Arts in Vienna, then painting with Eduard Bäumer. After completing his studies in 1963, he took part in events staged by the Vienna Actionists, and devoted himself to the Pop Art movement with his so-called ‘invented objects’. His works were exhibited for the first time in Berlin, his newly adopted home, in 1965. In 1984, Attersee successfully represented Austria at the Venice Biennale. Alongside his activities as painter, stage designer, designer, writer, musician and filmmaker, Attersee lectured as a professor in Vienna and Salzburg. He received many awards in the course of his career, including the First Class Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, in 2005. To date, his artwork has been featured at over 500 international art exhibitions and trade fairs.

For many years, works by Attersee have been sold regularly in auctions at Dorotheum. On 24 Juni 2021, his 1987 painting Arbeit ist Kleidung was auctioned for a total of €45,300.
