The Austrian painter Adolf Humborg studied at the Academies of both Vienna and Munich. His preferred motif was – similarly to Eduard von Grützner – the portrayal of everyday scenes from the life of monks. He drew on humorous elements in these scenes, just as his fellow painter did, yet without forfeiting his objective point of view. He modulated his paintings with a delicate colour scheme, and his exactness of detail corresponded to the naturalism pursued by the Academies.
Humborg regularly exhibited his works in the Munich Glaspalast. His artistic work was also acclaimed with the bestowal of several medals.
