Urban VIII receives Felice da Cantalice; and
Urban VIII invests Taddeo Barberini as Prefect of Rome,

The present pair of paintings, document two events from the pontificate of Urban VIII Barbarini (1623-1644).
The first painting depicts Urban VIII blessing Felix of Cantalice (1515-1587). Felix of Cantalice was beatified by Urban VIII and later canonised by Pope Clement XI in 1712.
The second painting shows the Pope sitting on his throne in the centre and Taddeo Barberini, his nephew and Prefect of Rome, kneels beside him. The Pope hands Barberini a sceptre, a symbol of his political authority.
