Moretti was making cars as early as 1925, but small-series production only began after the war. From the 50s on, the car had more and more parts from Fiat. The last sports model was the 128, which combined the technological basis of the Fiat 128 with Moretti's own body. The 2a series was introduced in 1974. It had a much more modern appearance due to the plastic fenders. Moretti introduced the 128 in 1976, an independent sport coupé.
A Fiat dealer in Linz bought this coupé for his wife on July 14, 1976. He repainted the silver Maretti red all over, including the bumpers (which are normally black) and added sturdy alloy wheels. The consigner, a friend of the Fiat dealer, acquired the car on October 15, 1976, also for his wife. The exclusive coupé has remained in the family ever since. The total mileage over all those years is only about 65,700 km. The car was inspected in July 2016 – no problem, thanks to the mechanical relationship with Fiat. The paint job was refreshed again, as well. The sleek Moretti represents an interesting combination of Italian small-series production and large series mechanics. This saves a lot of trouble when it comes to the operation. With these numbers, however, this practical sports car remains unique, a real find for lovers of rare Italian vehicles!
