A rare “Fishnet Chair”, designed and manufactured by Marcel Wanders,
2001, Wanders Studio, Netherlands, hand-woven carbon fibre cord coated with epoxy resin, height 75 cm, width 80 cm, depth 75 cm, height of seat 38 cm. (DRAX)
The “Fishnet Chair” is a further development of Wanders’s “Knotted Chair” from 1996. Less than ten specimens of it were produced. The concept for the rope chairs came from a Droog project entitled Dry Tech. Wanders combined industrial techniques and materials with handcraft. Using aramide cord with carbon fibres, the chair shape is knotted into a macramé-like pattern. This is then impregnated with epoxy resin and hung within a frame to dry and harden.
