(born in Yonkers, New York, in 1957) The Cheryl Pictures, 2004, mixed media with doll, camera, light, LCD monitor and motor, 203 x 61 x 76 cm, (PP)
Provenance:
Arndt & Partner, Berlin;
Private Collection, Austria
Since the 1980s Jon Kessler has produced kinetic sculptures that buzz, wiggle and turn. In ‘The Cheryl Pictures’ a doll is placed upon a structure that is turned in circles by means of a motor. A centrally positioned camera films its face during the process. The small monitor on the wall shows the eyes of the doll open, then closed; the doll’s hair turns around her head. With his own individual vocabulary, Kessler refers to the real fears of modern life, whilst also placing us in an exciting ‘wonderland’.
