The present painting is accompanied by an expert report of W. Bernt (1970).
Joos van Craesbeeck was presumably a student of Adriaen Brouwer. He painted tavern interiors with drinking and smoking farmers that followed Brouwer’s example, as well as genre scenes depicting burghers, school scenes, and nocturnal scenes. His paintings were frequently attributed to Adriaen Brouwer.
