The present painting, with some alterations, follows the composition of Annibale Carraccis, depicting SR Roch with an angel (Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum). A second version with St Jacob the Elder by Ludovico Carracci is today at the Norton Gallery, West Palm Beach.
The attribution to Annibale Carracci was suggested by Stephen Pepper (written communication).
