Wooded landscape with Diana and her nymphs after the hunt,

London art market;
Galleria Giorgio Caretto, Turin (1976);
Guido Freiherr Conrad von Konradsheim, Brussels (1978);
private collection, Vienna
Adriaen van Stalbemt, dean of the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp from 1618 onwards, was a versatile artist. He painted landscapes as well as history and genre paintings. He occasionally worked with colleagues such as Jan Brueghel I and Frans Francken II. The 1976 catalogue of Galleria Caretto, Turin, mentions the figures in the present painting as the work of Hans Jordaens III.
However, Ellis Dullaert of the RKD, to whom we are grateful for her kind assistance, questions this interpretation. Stalbemt’s landscape style was influenced by both Gillis van Coninxloo and Jan Brueghel I.
