George Godwin Kilburne was trained as a woodcutter in the studio of the Dalziel brothers who were well known engravers and illustrators in London. Soon Kilburne turned towards watercolor and oil painting for which his training in engraving had been a great experience and prerequisite. The depiction of elegant ladies of the English society who he painted with utmost precision in detail belonged to his main repertory. His painting of garments, cloth and surface exemplified his special gift and made him quite successful.
