“Features from Currents”, screenprint from the series: Currents, signed by hand, dated Rauscheberg 70, inscribed HC, image size 89 x 89 cm, sheet size 101 x 101 cm, framed, browning verso, (EH)
In his Currents series (1970) Robert Rauschenberg devoted himself to politics and world events. He examined temporal breaks in which newspapers reported. With a freer approach than in his earlier graphics he renounced gestural punctuation. The basis of his works was now a broken grid, consisting of headlines, new products and new photos. Originally realised as collages, the images were published as two series of screenprints, one with the title Features from Currents with mostly legible text, and the other Surface Series from Currents, in which the text was darkened and obscured by superimposed patterns and inversions.
