1967 Porsche 911 S 2.0 Litre SWB

1967 Porsche 911 S 2.0 Litre SWB - Autoveicoli d'epoca

An iconic sports car and the 'driver's version'. Porsche launched the 911 S in August 1967 in order to expand its 911-programme. At 160 bhp, with a 1991 ccm at 6,600 rpm, 220 km/h and and acceleration speed of 8 seconds from 0-60mph, it was the fastest sports car Germany had ever seen. At the time, a lawyer and professor from Munich openly declared it 'a crime to produce such a car'. AMS magazine completed its first test with the verdict that such a car was setting significant new standards not only with respect to its output, but also with regard to the sum total of its outstanding features. Two weighty statements that are just as extreme as the car in question. Since there is nothing that is ever 'enough' for very long though, it didn't take long before people even started to tune the 'S'. However, Porsche recognised these potentials itself and, with each facelift, also upped the S' quality just that little bit. The present 911 S was originally supplied new to the USA, where it was also modified for even higher performance. It was imported into Germany in 1997, where it was registered in Düsseldorf on 17 June 1997. The Porsche kept its Düsseldorf numberplate right to the end, because its next two keepers were also from Düsseldorf. It was registered in the current keepers name on 4 April 2002. In 2009, the coupé was stripped and repainted without requiring any body repairs. The Porsche was fitted with a different engine built in 1967, engine no. 909084, housing no. 901/05 while it was still in the USA. This engine had quite obviously been extensively tuned, which is why it is by no means inferior to the standard "S" feel. The sleek machine draws air through Weber 40IDA carburettors and has a standard Porsche exhaust system. It goes without saying that it sports the quintessential racing wheels and a Nardi steering wheel. The tires and Deep 6" wheels have just been replaced and perfectly complement the low body. The larger fuel tank ensures that it can cover a fair few miles between breaks. For purists, the above might sound dreadful, while the big kids amongst us will probably consider it a revelation. A 2 litre S-model Porsche is a car that, even today, will deliver a truly unforgeable experience. It's power is purely and simply down to mechanics, and it performs its work with a mighty roar. This is a car that requires active participation from its driver and will be a challenge to anyone who is truly out to give it a run. This vehicle is an original 911 S, modified in a way that was typical of its time, very simple and designed for exhilarating fun. And should sanity ever get the upper hand, it could always be turned into an ordinary 911 S. Sometime in the future ...
