Supplied new to Germany, located in Austria for the past 22 years! The very first Porsche 356 were produced without a roof and since the start of production, the coupé was always available alongside an open version of the luxury sports car. In 1955, the 356 A – a much upgraded model all round – took over from the original version and featured a new body, a completely revamped cockpit and new engines in the rear. However, Porsche continuously updated and improved the A throughout its entire 5 year production period, which, over time, resulted in better brakes, better steering and a better chassis frame. In 1957, Porsche produced 542 cabriolets, a large percentage of which were shipped to the USA. The present 356 cabriolet, on the other hand, was supplied new to the company Raffay & Co in Hamburg in April 1957. The fact that it also made its way to the USA before returning to Europe is still evident from its imperial speedometer. The Porsche made its way to Austria as early as 1995, where it was owned by a lady based in Grinzing, who, two years later, sold it to a businessman from Kärnten, from which, in turn, it was purchased by the vendor. The cabriolet's last keeper has given it a positive amount of attention and had the odd thing, and wherever needed, restored by a specialist. Most recently, this has included replacing the engine and gearbox seals, and tuning the engine. This charming cabriolet is extremely beautiful throughout, in very good condition, and its highly becoming fade lend it the kind of charm that is often lacking in newly restored cars. The ravishing original shape of this A model and elegant colour combination furthermore make this car especially charismatic and hard to resist. Because, it has to be said, that this cabriolet is without a doubt one of the most gorgeous examples around!
