1968 Porsche 911 L 2.0 SWB

1968 Porsche 911 L 2.0 SWB - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Porsche began upgrading its 911 series in September 1967, after which it produced the 911 in three engine versions – with 110, 130 and 160 bhp respectively. The 911 L continued to feature the original 130 bhp engine. This early generation also goes by the name 'SWB' (Short Wheel Base) because the wheel base was made longer and longer after September 1968 in an effort to reduce the 911's tendency to oversteer. Although not a problem and a welcome challenge for skilled drivers, it was a sore point for Porsche as a premium car manufacturer and needed correcting. Today, the SWB 911 is particularly sought after and, according to the vehicle's documents, the 911 L presented here was supplied new to a medical doctor in California on 9 July 1968. At present, this 911 is back on German roads with both its original engine and sprightly performance. Bills and receipts show that this Porsche's engine was overhauled and restored to full horsepower in 2015 by a specialist company. Its faux leather seats, door panels and carpeting are in very good condition and the dashboard comprises the original aluminium panel only found in the 1967 and 68 models. The light ivory paintwork and chrome rims all correspond to the 911's original configuration. While its sport performance exhaust is not original, it is a becoming accessory and produces a gripping soundtrack. Just serviced, this SWB is ready for the immediate, pure and unadulterated pleasure of driving an original 911!
