Lotto No. 116

Bartolomeo Nazari

(Clusone near Bergamo 1699–1758 Milan) A portrait study of a young man in a white wig, black and white chalk, on ochre prepared laid paper, 24 x 18 cm, laid down, browned, mounted, unframed, (Sch)

Provenance: Collector’s mark monogram NC in a circle (Nino Carozzi, Lugt 3606); private collection, Italy.

With a certificate by Prof. Ugo Ruggeri.

Bean/Griswold 1990, pp. 152–153). Resemblances exist also with two paintings „Portrait of the Singer Farinelli“ in the Royal College of Music in London (Noris 1982, p. 248, No. 2) and the “Portrait of Girolamo Pietro Cortinovis” (Noris 1982, p. 264, No.1); the latter being reproduced in an engraving by Francesco Zucchi.

Comparative Literature: F. Noris, “Bartolomeo Nazari”, in: I Pittori Bergamaschi dal XIII al XIX secolo. Il Settecento. I”, Bergamo 1982, pp. 248, 264, 267; J. Bean/ W. Griswold, 18th Century Italian Drawings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York 1990, pp. 152–153.
