The present painting formerly bore alternative attributions to Jacob Jordaens and Jan Lievens. Bernhard Schnackenburg, to whom we are grateful for his kind support, sees a vague connection to the oeuvre of Jacob Backer, which is, however, rejected by Peter van den Brink, whom we also thank for his opinion. He considers the picture to be Flemish and thinks that it is by one of Rubens’s followers.
