The composition of the present painting relates to Rembrandt’s etching of the subject from 1641, which suggests that it was probably painted after this date. The figure of Saint Philip recalls the figure types of Pieter Quast, who worked in The Hague, where Staverenus was also active from 1634 to 1641.
