The unsigned miniature is painted in the characteristic pointillist manner and with the bluish grey shading in the face which is was typical for Bencini. Bencini’s name appears frequently in the account books of the Chamber Office of the Imperial Dynasty between the 1740s and 1780s.The Imperial miniature collection preserves a portrait of Empress Maria Ludovica which is signed Bencini jun. (the younger). It seems that several members of the Bencini family worked for the Imperial court. (Robert Keil, Die Porträtminiaturen des Hauses Habsburg, Vienna 1999, Cat. 180).
