1973 Volkswagen T2

1973 Volkswagen T2 - Autoveicoli d'epoca

The second generation of the VW transporter - the T2 - was launched in 1967. The new kid on the block was 20 centimetres longer, had larger windows and, as its most striking feature, an expansive, single-piece, domed windscreen, known as the bay window. The driver’s cabin was significantly more comfortable, making the T2 an ideal vehicle for longer distances. In its standard version, the VW transporter had only one sliding door and a remarkably improved chassis. An air-cooled boxer engine remained unchanged at the rear. The T2 became the most popular minivan of its generation and even beyond. Over 2.5 million units left the factory until its replacement by the T3 in 1979.

Registered for the first time 1973 in Innsbruck, this T2 has remained true to its homeland since then. Of this, it spent 30 years with its third owner, before being sold to the consignor in 2007 - although it remained in the family. The new owner started an extensive overhaul in 2016/17, documenting his work in photographs. Thankfully, the well-preserved bodywork substance meant that only minimal metalwork was necessary. To open up new uses as a camper van, the nine-seater bus was slightly modified, receiving an original rock ‘n’ roll folding bench by Rusty Lee and a refrigerator. But the consignor held onto the rear seats, where they can be picked up on request. This ideal recreational vehicle is a rolling invitation to get out on the road and enjoy whatever the day may bring. A bus like this is doubtless among the best opportunities to step out of everyday life for a moment - or even for longer...
