Lotto No. 518 V

1952 Steyr Fiat 1400 *

1952 Steyr Fiat 1400 * - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Austrian classic with just 2 previous owners!

Unrestored; deregistered since 1971!

The Steyr Werken in Graz stopped producing finished personal vehicles after the end of the Second World War; instead, the factory assembled slightly modified Fiat models. It built the Fiat 1400 from 1951, an innovative vehicle with self-supporting bodywork in pontoon style and with series-fitted heating, known as an air conditioner.

This Steyr Fiat 1400 was delivered to a member of the Lower Austrian regional parliament in March 1952. A particular feature of this 1400 is its side indicators along with the regular indicators that were fitted as standard equipment from 1952. The first owner kept the car until 1968, when it was sold to its second owner and finally deregistered in 1971. It is immediately noticeable that this Styrian vehicle only spent 20 years travelling the roads, as it remains in a magnificently unrestored condition. Naturally, the two bench seats - with space for six people - show traces of use, and the coat of paint has been touched up in places. Nevertheless, there are no traces of restoration attempts or other disastrous endeavours. The loving care that the vehicle has enjoyed is evident, while the bodywork is pleasingly robust, and the engine starts without as much as a whimper. No doubt it will need a little work to make it roadworthy, but 50 years of waiting is certainly long enough!

VIN: 101047491, mileage: 99,186 km (read), displacement: 1,359 cc/R4, power: 44 hp, colour: grey/light brown (fabric), gearbox: 4-speed, papers: Austrian registration document
