(1724-1805) A head study of a young woman, red and white chalk, on laid paper, inscribed "Lagrenée" in pen and brown ink on the reverse, 12,5 x 11,7 cm, mounted, framed, (Sch)
Provenance:
Private collection, Germany.
The present drawing may be a study for a female figure in the painting "La Philosophie" (oil on canvas, 90 x 75 cm), 1774 (Galerie Eric Coatalem, Paris). The technique of using red and white chalk seems unusual for Lagrenée, but the physiognomy of the young woman matches with figures which are to find in his paintings.
