Everett Fahy (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York) per la aver determinato il pittore. Il dott. Fahy scrive: The picture "is a characteristic work by the anonymous painter known as the Master of the Capana Panels. It was I who first isolated his work; I recognized fifteen of his paintings in my 1967 doctoral dissertation. Some Followers of Domenico Ghirlandaio, pp. 216 - 18, where I called him the Master of Tavernelle. The name was changed by Federico Zeri in his article Una congiunzione tra Firenze e Francia; il Maestro dei Cassoni Camapana (Diari di lavoro 2, Torino, 1976, pp. 5 - 78); Zeri also added eight more paintings to the master's oeuvre and suggested that he might have been a French painter working in Tuscany". Il dott. Fahy è stato il primo a determinare l’opera del maestro fino ad allora sconosciuto, chiamato da Federico Zeri 'Maestro dei Cassoni Campana', artista presumibilmente francese attivo in Toscana.
