Lotto No. 254

A side table mod. “Emilie”, designed by Irene Maria Ganser

A side table mod. “Emilie”, designed by Irene Maria Ganser - Design

in 2018, pared-down solid cast bronze structure with round table top and round base. Manufactured in Austria. Surface hand-finished by the artist. Dimensions: height c. 50 cm, diameter c. 50 cm (MHA)

The “Emilie” table is a tribute to Emilie Flöge, the famous Viennese designer who ran her own fashion salon around 1900 and became known as Gustav Klimt’s muse and companion. The table also draws inspiration from Viennese coffee house culture. For this design, Irene Maria Ganser reinterprets the classic Viennese wickerwork normally found in coffee houses by casting it in bronze. Once formed and cast, the braided pattern is gold polished, thus standing out even more from the base. Unlike the series model, featuring a marble or bronze base, the present item is a unique example with the foot painted in a contrasting colour and the table top hand-finished by the artist.
