Suzuki Harunobu (1725-1770)
Series: F Enshoku Maneemon (The charming adventures in love of Maneemon). The series comprises a foreword and 24 sheets. This sheet, no. 15, belongs to the second part of the series (sheets 13-24), which feature images from the Yoshiwara, colour woodblock print, dated 1765, cf. comparative image: ‘Plate from F enshoku manê-emon (The Stylish Erotic Midget) - no. 15; in: Richard Land and Yoshikazu Hayashi, The complete ukiyo-e shunga. Ukiyo-e shunga meihin shusei, 1998, vol. 21, ill. 6. This sheet is heavily cropped particularly to its upper margin, with the result that the entire text within the cloud has been lost. The impression is pleasing, but the colours are very faded. The sheet is very rubbed to the right. It is also somewhat stained, dirty and creased.
