Robert Oerley was an Austrian architect, applied arts artist, painter of watercolours and a lithographer. He studied at the School of Applied Arts, was a self-taught artist and began to dedicate himself to architecture. The Wien Museum preserves a great number of vedutas by his hand. In 1902 he became a member of the Hagenbund and between 1907 and 1939 he was a member of the Vienna Secession, whose president he was in 1912/13.
