Wolf Traut was active in Dürer’s workshop between 1508 and 1518. Under the guidance and supervison of Dürer he provided woodcuts for the monumental Triumphal Arch commissioned by Emperor Maximilain which comprised sheets of paper deriving from 195 separate wood blocks. The present woodcut with the Conquest of Naples was executed as part of the Triumphal Arch for which besides Wolf Traut artists such as Hans Burgkmair, Albrecht Altdorfter, Leonhard Beck, and Wolf Huber were active.
