Gustav Jahn

Gustav Jahn - Disegni e stampe fino al 1900, acquarelli e miniature

(Vienna 1879–1919)
In the high mountains, signed and dated Gust. Jahn 1915, watercolour, white bodycolour on paper, 23 x 31 cm, framed, (Hu)

Gustav Jahn attended the painting school of Adolf Kaufmann from 1895 onwards. Afterwards he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under August Eisenmenger and Alois Delug. From 1900 to 1904 Jahn attended the „Spezialschule“ (special school for history painting) of Franz Rumpler. In 1904 he received the Kenyon-Travel Bursary for going to Rome, of which he made more use for his passion which was mountaineering in the Mont Blanc area rather than use it for his painting activities. As a result paintings with landscapes in the high mountains and genre pictures became his major field of artistic activity. Many of his works were marketed as prints, wall charts in schools and posters; a poster series with Alpine motifs, which was commissioned by the Austrain state railway company, found special recognition.
