In the 500, Dante Giacosa created a revolutionary small car that mobilised the masses even in 1936. A cute body with protruding lamps was perched on a lightweight frame that gave the car its nickname, the “Topolino”. A water-cooled, four-cylinder engine did the business up front, like in a ‘real’ car. The 500 C – a thoroughly modernised model without the typical ears, was released in 1949. As in Germany, the Austrian 500 C was manufactured under licence.
The original certificate of conformity states that this Styrian Topolino was registered in Vienna on 1 July 1954. It has been owned by the consignor since 2013. He purchased the Fiat from a friend, who proved the 500’s reliability in countless rallies and mountain tours. They are documented in a logbook, which was kept since 1991, and by a variety or proud stickers: Wachau, Cortina, Stilfserjoch! The diminutive Fiat is a laid-back companion, popular and well-loved wherever it goes for its typical small car qualities. The pristine condition practically invites the new owner to take the vehicle out for a leisurely spin. This year it has been submitted for auction freshly serviced and is certain to take its new owner to the Adriatic, to sun, sea and gelato.
