We are grateful to Fred Meijer for confirming the attribution of the present painting to Artus Claessens. It is characteristic for this rare artist, whose works are sometimes mistaken for those of Clara Peeters, such as a comparable still life in the Szépmüvészeti Museum in Budapest.
