“A stroke of luck allowed me to acquire an almost complete assortment of plots of gloss house paint from a bankrupt drugstore, in the kind of boxes you could find in 1980. As I shook the boxes in the store, I realized that I was ready to start up my experiments in pictorial stratigraphy once again: the paint hadn’t dried. In the preceding series, the hue of each skin diminished in intensity according to the density of the pigments, the lightest always remaining at the bottom of the basins. Pair A and Pair B are half-fruitless attempt to obtain a complete series of skins with all the same colours; a kind of flaky pastry in separate pieces. Unfortunately I was not able to correctly measure the density of the colours, or maybe every colour has a different density. Already after having peeled off two skins, the rest mixed together. These two pictures inaugurated new working possibilities.”
