Lotto No. 167

A Unique Coffee Table, Mod. No. Taxus 2, Jaroslav (Jaro) Komon 2014 * ,

sculptural construction, yew root, lime wood, carbon fibre, finish with cellulose polish. Marked: ‘J. K. 14/2014’. Height c. 43 cm, width c. 150 cm, depth c. 60 cm. (MHA) From the Dynamic Objects series. The material for the panels consists of fallen timber, i.e. only trees that have been toppled by storms or felled for age reasons. The extraordinary, unique and almost dramatic structure of the wood is partly due to external influences during the growth of the trees. The frame and legs are hand-carved from lime wood and individually adapted to the boards. In order to reinforce these filigree forms, carbon fibres are applied to the blanks. A special pressing process developed by Jaro Komon creates a firm shell with a unique iridescent structure. The robustness of the composites allows the creation of shapes that cannot be achieved with traditional materials. The surface treatment is executed by hand with proven products of the highest quality, such as copal lacquer, hard oil, shellac or cellulose lacquer. They protect the surfaces and give the wood special luminosity and optical depth.

Jaroslav Komon was born in Prague in 1958. After successfully completing his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he attended the College of Applied Arts in Prague and studied engineering at the local Technical University. In 1983, he fled from the CˇSSR to West Germany. He eventually founded his own restoration workshop in Munich and a carpentry workshop in the Czech Republic. He has developed and implemented numerous interior design concepts for private buildings in Prague, Munich, Geneva, Salzburg and other cities. In 2005, he also founded the ‘Art-Kabinett’ manufactory in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Jaroslav Komon lives and works in Munich.

A unique piece.
