Piotr Stachiewicz received his first artistic formation at the Academy of Fine Arts of Crakow from Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz and Florian Cynk between 1879 and 1883. Afterwards he continued his studies at the Fine Arts Academy in Munich with Otto Seitz. Stachiewicz travelled to Italy, Athens and Jerusalem. From 1855 onwards he lived in Crakow. He mainly executed religious and historic paintings, portraits and genre paintings. He became particularly famous with portraits of women in local costumes.
