An Oversized Empire Ormolu Mantel Clock ‘Hypocrate refusant les présents d’Artaxerxès’ ‘Laguesse & Cie à Paris’, - L’Art de Vivre

large spring-driven pendule movement, power reserve: 2–3 weeks, lever escapement, half-hour count wheel striking mechanism on bell, gilt guilloché bronze dial with snake bezel, delicate blued steel hands, superb fire-gilt bronze case in exquisite design and gilding, Hippocrates refusing to accept the gifts of Artaxerxes’ Persian envoys, attributed to: Pierre-François Feuchère, Paris 63 x 64 cm, France c. 1810/20, very well-kept original condition, minor signs of age and use, no warranty for precision of movement and long-term functioning, 1 gold painted wooden base with glass lintel, 1 pendulum. This clock is illustrated in the book "Vergoldete Bronzen - Die Bronzearbeiten des Spätbarock und Klassizismus", where its dimensions and whereabouts are indicated as unknown. A clock with the same rare subject of the incorruptible doctor was offered at auction from Feuchère’s estate in 1831 under no. 78 (Sale Feuchère Paris 12-14.12.1831, 18).
