Oiso, Shigitatsusawa Saigyo-an (The Hermitage of Saigyo near the Shigigatsu Swamp), from the series: "Famous Views of the 53 Stations of the Tokaido", nishiki-e, signed Hiroshige hitsu, publisher Tsutaya Kichizo (Koeido), dated 1855 (Ansei 2, month 7), censor seal aratame, compare sheet and details with acc. 00.1196, MFA, Boston: the present sheet looks like a very early print because the wood grain is clearly visible in the sky at the top and in the area of the water above the pines; a nice loss of green at the right margin in the hill area at the top (due to the printing process), dark blue bokashi in the upper and lower part of the water, rich yellow and red, good impression and colours, attached at the upper corners at the back, traces of glue at the centre back, right and left corner outside the image area possibly restored, almost full margins, 35.9 x 24.5 cm, mounted, (CT)
