A “Clam” Armchair, designed by Arnold Madsen (attributed to)
in 1944, for Madsen & Schubell (attributed to), Denmark, four-legged birchwood construction, stained, polished, new lamb cover, height c. 78 cm, width c. 65 cm, depth c. 75 cm, seat height c. 42 cm (MHA).
This model is also called “Muslingestolen”. The design was attributed to several scandinavien Designers in the past. The latest was the Danish architect Philip Arctander. Actually Arnold Madsen should designed that model in 1944 in his small basement workshop in Gothersgade, Copenhagen.
In 1944, the model was part of the collection for the opening of the NY FORM A/S furniture store in Copenhagen. In 1953, Madsen & Schubell sold the licence for that model to the Norwegian company Vik and Blindheim.
Provenance:
Formerly Private Collection Sweden, acquired from the above by the present owner.
