Private collection, Italy.
The drawing goes back to an engraving by Domenico Cunego (1726–1803) and is based on a drawing by Anton Raphael Mengs (1728–1779) after the figure of the young man next to Euklid in Raphaels fresco “School of Athens” (c. 1509–1510) in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican. Cunego’s engraving was published in 1785 in the album “Le LII test della celebre scuola d’Atene dipinta da Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino nel Palazzo Vaticano disegnati in XL. carte dal cavalier Antonioe Raffaello Mengs, incise da Domenico, Rom 1785 (Pl. 8).
