Italy c. 1890/1900, ebonised walnut, pewter intarsia, rod friezes made of bone, copper wraps, two upholstered seats, covered with grey-green dyed and embossed leather (“elephant grain effect”), punched copper decorative plates, wrought iron nails, height 47 cm, length 127 cm, depth 50 cm. (DRAX)
Original condition with no previous restorations or alterations. With confirmation of authenticity and certificate by Angela Meincke, Munich, dated 31 January 2022.
Probably a commissioned work and a unique piece in this version with upholstered leather seat. Two further known variants of this design have a flat parchment overlay and are referred to as storage tables. The dating of this piece to around 1890 is also supported by the colour of the leather and its embossed pattern, which were both typical for the time.
