Otto Schoefft worked as a photographer in Cairo. His earliest known works were shown at the Viennese Photography Exhibition of 1873, and were reviewed by Alphonse Davanne (co-founder of the Société Française de Photographie 1854) as followed: "Scènes orientales et d'Egypte, très artistique". As early as the 1880s, he was already employing the title, ‘Photographe de la Cour du Caire’. Even though he was mentioned in many contemporary publications, very few of his photographs are now well-known. As cited in: N. Perez, Focus East, publ. N Abrams, The Domino Press, Jerusalem
