“Painting is an art for happy people, whether they are the producers of it or the people who enjoy it. There will be paintings as long as there are happy people, and such are likely to emerge again and again, either from a sea of stupidity or from a pool of intelligence that has had enough with its one dragonfly. The unhappy person, on the other hand, plunges into the abyss of the word, the abyss that is most fearfully avoided by the very people because of whom this person has plunged into it.”
