before 1900, manufactured by Breitfeld, Danek & Co., Blansko, reduced iron construction, grey lacquered. In addition, two subsequent side pillars for mounting. Dimensions of each fence element: height c. 75 cm, width c. 75 cm, depth c. 8 cm. Dimensions with pillar: height c. 102 cm, width c. 106 cm. Signs of age and use, scratches and abrasions, subsequent lacquer and pillars. (MHA)
The so-called Stadtbahn railings, also known as ‘sunflower railings’ (Sonnenblumengeländer), still characterise the cityscape of Vienna today. They can also be found at other urban railway stations of the former Habsburg monarchy such as Bohumin, Brno and Krakow.
